2007 – Honor Recipient, The Carter G. Woodson Book Award, sponsored by the National Council for the Social Studies. Growing Season was one of only six books selected nationally to receive a book award or honor book award for 2007
2007 – Winner, the 2007 Ohioana book award. The Ohioana Library Association selected Growing Season as one of seven winners for 2007. Over 800 books in five categories, written by Ohio authors or about Ohio, were judged

Summer 2007 – Akron Life and Leisure received a second-place for magazine features (general) from the annual Ohio Excellence in Journalism awards, hosted by the Cleveland Press Club for the feature story on Growing Season, “In The Trenches” by Denise Henry
Summer 2007 – WKSU-FM News Staff, received a first-place award in the special reporting series from the Ohio Professional Writers, Inc. for the feature story that included a story on Growing Season, “Here goes the Neighborhood”
